How to Land a Spot on a Podcast
🎙️ I often get asked how to land a spot on a podcast. Whether you’re trying to get booked or pitching someone else, a few key steps can make it much easier for a producer or host to say “yes.”
First, start with a short, focused pitch. Producers and hosts juggle a lot, and a concise email shows you value their time. Then, show that you’ve done your homework. Nothing triggers a quick delete like a generic, copy-paste pitch that clearly ignores what the show is actually about.
Here’s an example of a pitch that actually helps a producer see the potential in booking a guest:
Subject: Guest Pitch: Morticia Addams for Goth News
Hello,
My name is Lurch, and I represent Morticia Addams of the famous Addams Family. Since Goth News covers goth fashion and key moments in goth history, we think Morticia’s perspective as a member of one of the most iconic goth families, as well as being a Goth fashion icon, would be a great fit. She’d love to talk about the evolution of goth culture, where the scene is heading, or any topic you’d like to explore.
Thanks for considering her. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Lurch
A strong, tailored pitch like that gives a producer something to take straight to the host and say, “This looks like a great fit. Want me to follow up?” After the team signs off, we can ask for a one-sheet, pitch deck, or bio and move forward with scheduling. A thoughtful email gives us everything we need to confidently recommend you, your client, or your boss for the show. Now you know how to book a spot a podcast!
